I was introduced to RentReporters.com by CreditKarma on February this year. Back then it was my first month after being transferred to the USA. I know how credit score and credit history are a complex thing here and there was no way I could live on paying foreign credit card currency exchange rates and taxes.

I could also have applied for a secured credit card, but why put $100 on a secured card if I can pay a few dollars/month to get my rent reported?

With RentReporters I got a bump up on my credit score (up ~11 Transunion and ~3 on Equifax) and one addition to my total accounts number. Now I got a non secured credit card, a good credit and can’t even keep track of how many credit card offers I get in my mailbox every month.

RentReporters even offered me the opportunity to report all my rental payments from the beginning of my contract, which would have also bumped up the age of credit history factor – just didn’t do it because my contract was recent, but that’s awesome for whoever is building credit. And I just can’t wait till you guys are able to report my old lease contracts!

Part of the problem was that I had little understanding of credit. All I really knew was that credit was important, but I didn’t know the different ratings and how they worked, what was a revolving account, importance of on time payments, and why closed accounted mattered. I didn’t know what was impacting my score and how.

I learned about RentReporters and how reporting my on time rent payments could build my score. So, I signed up, and in about 15 days, my score went up 44 points to 610!

Frequently Asked Questions

Once your rental verification and landlord validation are complete, it generally takes about 5 business days for your credit report to be updated. Once your verification is complete, your rent history will appear on your credit report under the tradeline “RentReporters/Residence”.

Unfortunately the scoring models used by the bureaus are not published and therefore, we are unable to predict the affect on your score. However, we do expect that reporting a positive rent history will increase your credit score. It is not unusual for a score to increase by 50 points. Read what our customers are saying.

RentReporters is so confident that adding your on-time rent payments to your credit report will have such a significant impact, that if you’re not delighted with the initial increase in score, we will issue a refund. A refund request must be submitted to us within 48 hours from the time we notify you that your rental history has been added to your credit report. Please note that when a refund is processed, we’ll simultaneously be REMOVING your rental history from your credit report, which will also adjust your credit score back to where it would have been had the rent not been reported.

Nearly all the landlords and property managers we have worked with are happy to assist with the validation process. However unfortunately, if you landlord is unwilling to cooperate we are unable to report your rent history to the credit bureaus.
