The Equifax data breach could affect 143 million U.S. consumers. For these individuals, personal information like their Social Security numbers and birth dates could be exposed.

For our RentReporters customers, rest assured that our reporting data is NOT affected, as we do not report to Equifax. Your on time rental payments are reported to TransUnion, one of the three major credit bureaus.

What you need to know NOW is that you can check and see if your information was compromised at a website set up by Equifax.

You can also protect yourself by following these tips:

  • Check your credit card and bank statements
  • Check your credit report from all three credit bureaus
  • Enact a credit freeze, which means your credit reports can’t be shared with new creditors so new lines of credit cannot be open
